EXT. GREAT BANYAN ROOTS - DAY

A massive, sprawling root system creating a natural amphitheater. The jungle hums with tension. ANTON stands on a makeshift podium of chewed leaves. WEAVE is perched on a branch above. SILAS hangs from a thread nearby. DIGGER is poking his head out of the soil. BUCKY is chewing on a large piece of wood.

ANTON

(Ordering the crowd)

Listen up, everybody! This summit was called because our intellectual property is under siege. My colony spent eighty million years in R&D selectively breeding this mycelium. We literally wrote the book on agriculture. If anyone else tries to grow fungus on chewed leaves, you will be hearing from our legal team.

DIGGER

(Scoffs)

You think you have IP problems, Anton? I just filed a patent for subterranean aeration tunnels. You ants keep marching through my underground real estate without paying a licensing fee. You're infringing on my dirt, man.

ANTON

Your dirt? We brought the organic matter down here! Without us, you're just digging in dead clay.

WEAVE

(Fluttering her wings)

Please. You’re both using materials you didn't create. I’m the one who invented the slip-knot spiral. I keep the technique entirely secret. No other bird can replicate my nests. It's a trade secret, and if I catch anyone staring at my knots, I'll sue for unauthorized reverse-engineering.

SILAS

(Descending slightly on his web)

Trade secrets? Please. I have prior art on everything. I've been spinning tensile silk since the Carboniferous period, Weave. Your little stick-nest is a derivative work of my orb webs. And by the way, I copyrighted the exact geometric pattern of my droplines. Everyone needs to pay me royalties just to hang in the canopy.

CICI

(Splashing in a shallow pool nearby)

Oh, cry me a river! You guys are fighting over sticks and dirt. I literally evolved a specialized second set of jaws in my throat just to process food while my front jaws hunt. I trademarked my own face! If any other fish tries to crunch a snail with a pharyngeal jaw, I’m dragging them to the river court.

ARROW

(Breaking the surface of the water)

You all think you're special? I shoot a jet of water out of the surface tension to knock bugs off their perches. That’s ballistic physics, bro. I own the trajectory patent. I see a chameleon trying to use a tongue-flick—eyes only, buddy, that's my IP!

BUCKY

(Spitting out a wood chip)

You guys are small time. I’m dealing with infrastructural monopolies. I just filed a patent on river-flow obstruction. I don't just interact with my environment, I own it. I'm building a mega-dam downstream. The water rights are entirely mine. You want to swim? You pay the toll.

ANTON

This is exactly what I expected. Nobody respects the patent. The jungle is supposed to be civilized!

WEAVE

It is civilized! Because my secrets stay mine!

DIGGER

If you don't share the tunnel mapping software, I'm closing the aquifer access.

CICI

Fine by me! I’ll just trademark the puddle I'm in!

BANYAN

(Voice booming, roots vibrating)

Enough. You bicker like fledglings over a single worm. You treat your survival strategies as corporate assets. Let us see how long your patents hold when the ecosystem shifts. Act Two will prove your folly.

CUT TO:

ACT TWO

EXT. RIVERBANK - DAY

The river is completely dried up. A massive, unnatural dam blocks the water. BUCKY sits proudly on top of it. ARROW is flopping in a shallow, muddy puddle. CICI is gasping. WEAVE is panting, her feathers ruffled. DIGGER is covered in dry dust. ANTON is frantically pacing. SILAS’s webs are drooping.

ARROW

(Gasping)

Bucky, bro... what did you do? The water level dropped three feet! My trajectory math is shot! I can't hit the bugs perched on the branches anymore. I’m starving!

BUCKY

(Crossing his arms)

Not my problem, Arrow. I exercised my IP rights to engineer the hydrology. You should have gotten a water-access license.

CICI

(Coughing up mud)

I'm stuck in a mud puddle! The pH is totally off! I can't even open my trademarked jaws without biting a rock!

ANTON

(Panicking)

My fungus! The humidity is gone! The mycelium is drying out! Bucky, your dam is ruining the microclimate! I'm losing millions of spores!

BUCKY

Maybe if you shared your fungal nutrients with me, I'd consider opening a spillway.

WEAVE

(Panting)

Weave... can't... work. The air is too dry. My silk knots are fraying. The tensile strength is compromised. Silas, your webs are looking rough, too.

SILAS

(Depressed)

No dew drops to stick to my silk. No bugs flying into my geometry. The structural integrity of this canopy is failing. Even my copyright can't save me from gravity.

DIGGER

(Coughing)

The soil! It's turning to concrete without the river moisture! I can't dig! My tunnels are collapsing! My patent on aeration is useless if I can't even penetrate the topsoil!

ANTON

(Looking around)

Wait. Where are the aphids? Where are the leaf-decomposing microbes?

WEAVE

They left! They couldn't survive the drought!

ARROW

Guys, I'm seeing bugs everywhere up there, laughing at me. I can't reach them. Arrow’s ballistic patent is officially dead.

ANTON

(Realizing)

Without the river... there is no humidity. Without humidity, the fungus dies. Without the fungus, the ants starve. Without the ants, the soil isn't turned over. Without the soil...

DIGGER

My tunnels collapse. And without my tunnels, the roots don't get oxygen. Banyan is starting to suffocate.

SILAS

And without Banyan, there is no canopy. No canopy, no webs. No webs, no nests.

CICI

And no shade over the water. The puddles are boiling! We're all going to die because of a patent dispute!

BUCKY

(Looking at his dam, suddenly worried)

Wait, if everyone dies... who builds the dam? I need the trees for lumber. If Banyan dies, I have no materials. I'm ruined! I'm a monopoly with no market!

BANYAN

(Voice weak, leaves rustling dryly)

You see now? Your intellectual property is an illusion. You cannot own the breath of the jungle.

CUT TO:

ACT THREE

EXT. GREAT BANYAN ROOTS - DUSK

The animals are gathered in a circle, looking exhausted and defeated. The dam still stands in the background, but the jungle is silent and dying.

WEAVE

We were so obsessed with protecting our own tricks... we forgot how to live.

ANTON

I spent so much time guarding my fungal secrets that I didn't notice the environment collapsing around me. I refused to share my knowledge. Now there's nothing left to know.

SILAS

I claimed the geometry of the web, but the web only works because the wind carries the prey, and the dew gives it stick. I didn't invent the wind or the dew.

CICI

And my specialized jaw is useless if the snails die out because the river dried up. I can't trademark a dead ecosystem.

DIGGER

We're just nodes in a network, aren't we? Not owners.

BUCKY

(Guilty)

I thought if I controlled the water, I controlled the power. But power without flow is just a stagnant pond.

BANYAN

(Weakly, but clearly)

The jungle is not a marketplace of competing patents. It is a living, breathing heart of a life bouquet.

ARROW

A life bouquet...

BANYAN

Yes. A bouquet is not beautiful because one flower hoards the sunlight. It is beautiful because the roots share the soil. The water feeds the roots. The leaves feed the fungus. The fungus feeds the ants. The ants aerate the soil. The spider catches the fly. The bird weaves the leaves. The beaver slows the water so it can sink into the earth.

ANTON

Interdependence.

BANYAN

Exactly. What makes this jungle a living, breathing heart is the fact that there is interdependence between all residents. None of you survive alone. Your IP, your secrets, your patents... they are just the ego of a single cell pretending it doesn't need the body.

WEAVE

(Softly)

If I share my weaving knots... the whole canopy could be stronger. More nests. More stability.

SILAS

And if I share my tensile silk techniques, the nests could hold in heavier storms.

DIGGER

If I open-source my tunnel maps... we can route water to the roots faster.

CICI

And if I let other fish crunch snails, the waterways won't get clogged with shells.

ANTON

And if I teach everyone how to farm the fungus... we can all decompose the dead matter and turn it into soil.

BUCKY

(Standing up)

Then I know what I have to do.

Bucky turns and runs toward the dam. He begins gnawing furiously at the base of it.

ARROW

He's tearing down his own dam!

Bucky gnaws through the main support beam. The dam bursts. Water comes rushing back into the riverbed. The jungle sighs. Leaves unfurl. The humidity returns.

ARROW

(Jumping into the flowing water)

Yes! The water level is back! I can calculate my trajectory again! Silas, do you mind if I borrow your silk-dew concept to gauge the wind resistance?

SILAS

Be my guest, Arrow. Open source, buddy.

ANTON

Digger, I'm uploading my fungal farming database to the root network. Free for all underground residents.

DIGGER

Appreciate it, Anton. I'll route a cool water tunnel straight to your farm. On the house.

CICI

(Swimming happily)

Hey Weave! You want to drop some nest scraps into the water? I need some shade over my new spawning ground.

WEAVE

I'll weave you a canopy, Cici. I've got some new knots I'm dying to teach everyone.

BANYAN

(Voice strong and resonant now)

The breath returns to the heart. The bouquet blooms. Remember this, my friends. You do not own the jungle. You are the jungle.

The animals all begin to interact, sharing their knowledge, building together. Silas drops a line for Weave to tie. Anton brings a leaf to Digger's tunnel. Arrow splashes water onto Banyan's roots. The jungle thrums with life.

FADE OUT.

THE END
